Cartmel Gathering

Monday 25 May 2026

On Whit Bank Holiday Monday 25th May there's a celebration of 170 years of racing at Cartmel with a full day of traditional sports, a full race card and of course, real ale.

The event commemorates the first recorded modern race meeting held at Cartmel on Whit Monday in 1856, and aims to recreate the spirit of those early gatherings when race days were as much a rural festival as a sporting occasion.

There's Cumberland & Westmorland Wrestling , Tug of War, a full race card, outdoor bars and loads of food options. We're also including free passes in and out to Cartmel Village to enjoy the Royal Oak, Cavendish Arms, Kings Arms, Priory, Unsworth's Yard, Pig & Whistle - the list goes on!

All information on the event can be found cartmel-racecourse.co.uk

Please note this is for information only if members wish to attend themselves, the branch has been contacted about possibly organising a coach to the event however there are currently no plans to do so.
