East Lancs Branch

SPBW Greater Manchester branch social trip

Saturday 1 August 2026

SPBW Greater Manchester branch are having a social trip to the Black Bull, in Blackburn where there will be 2 beers in wooden casks on the bar and some of our branch will be joining them.

The Society for the Preservation of Beers from the Wood (SPBW), founded in 1963, is the oldest consumer-based group interested in stimulating the brewing of, increasing the awareness of, and encouraging the drinking of cask conditioned real ale.

Plans are to get to the pub after it opens at 2pm (possibly more exact timings closer to the day).

How to get there:

Taxi is the best option, nearest train stations are Cherry Tree and Mill Hill (both 1.5 mile) and Blackburn is 2.5 mile.

Bus: Number 4 Blackburn to Leyburn Road - stop is Otterburn Road stop - then it's a half a mile uphill walk to the pub! That will build up a thirst.
