Branch Socials

The following are the Branch Socials review given at the Branch AGM by Pete Clegg, Social Secretary.

Socials review for the year 2019/2020.

We have continued visiting our outer branches this year but we did not manage to get around Burnley this year.

The places we visited this year were Pendle, Chester, Ribble Valley, Keighley & Saltaire, Embassy Beer Festival, Rawtenstall (Booze Cruise) Blackburn & Darwen, The Kimberley Club, Chorley (Turkey Trot) Thanks to Sara Pearce for sorting this one out.

We had different members and non-members join us for the various socials throughout the year and yes, we had some fun.

I do keep being told by our senior members of the branch that we are not visiting our branch breweries (need to sort this). The branch has had an invite from the Ashford, Folkstone and Romney CAMRA to join them at their award winning presentation at the Moorhouse Brewery on the 24th April, I have emailed them asking what time they arrive and let’s hope some of us can meet up with them and give them some of our northern hospitality.

O dear another day out, hic hic.

Anyway, I would like to say thanks for all who supported our events this year and if I am still doing the social sec next year all ideas for any other type of outing please contact me.

Pete

Please always let Pete know as soon as possible if you’re interested in any of the socials (non-members are always welcome), email ku.gro.armac.scnaltsae@laicos, as he needs to have an idea of numbers, whether transport in being provided or not, and trips get booked up quickly and he can add you to a waiting list.
Please note: Payment for coach trips must be for paid in advance, otherwise they may be cancelled if the cost of the coach is not met.

Additionally, Pete is always looking for suggestions of where to visit, so just get in touch with him and let’s see where the future will take us.

Socials review for the year 2018/2019.

In 2018 we went around the outer area pubs/clubs which are not easy to get to by bus ie Pendle, Burnley, Ribble Valley and Rossendale. All trips were well supported.

We visited 3 breweries during the last 12 months: Mini buses were fully booked up almost as soon as the trips were announced to Theakston in Masham and a Friday evening trip to Bank Top in Bolton. This followed in February where a grand total of 23 people made their own way to Hopstar in Darwen, probably thanks to the trains finally running again at the weekend. Yay! More brewery trips are lined up for 2019.

As well as an East Lancs Away Day trip which took us to Edinburgh on a scorching day in May, we had a fantastic trip in July to the CAMRA National Pub of the Year 2017, The Cricketers Arms in St. Helens, stopping off at several micropubs on the way there and back.

On a typically wet and rainy August Bank Holiday, we had a brilliant Sunday afternoon BBQ somewhere in the deepest Rossendale Valley at the Kimberley Club. I’d love to tell you where it is but it’s a secretive and wonderful establishment and you had to be there to experience it.

And last but not least the Annual Christmas Turkey Trot which took us to Hebden Bridge.

I think it’s fair to say we had a good year, and of course all the thanks must go to Pete Clegg, your Social Secretary, for all his hard work and dedication in providing us with great days out and great memories. Cheers Pete!
